| Initiative Title | 1B (View VP Note) Full Time Tenure Track Physics Instructor |
| Submitted in Previous Year(s) | 2008 |
| Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | In recent years three full time physics and engineering faculty have retired and only one has been replaced (2008-2009 initiative). Currently 70% of the physics and engineering courses are being covered by adjunct instructors and retired professors. The rigorous nature of the physics and engineering courses makes finding a qualified adjunct a difficult task. It is imperative that the department secure a full time instructor to maintain the high level of excellence that the physics and engineering program is known for. |
| Consequences of this initiative not being funded | It is difficult to find part-time teachers with the appropriate background to teach our college level phyics offerings. If skilled adjuncts cannot be found the courses will be cancelled. Maintaining the laboratory space requires the dedication of full time faculty. |
