Computer lab for testing

Initiative TitleComputer lab for testing
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2019
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The PTA Program is in need of addressing the student's ability to take and pass examinations on a computer interface as that is the means to which they must pass their national licensure examination. Obtaining scheduling within the BT 115 computer lab has become difficult as more program's are using this space for testing as well. Not only do the student's need to perform this but it is necessary for them to practice this skill within the confines of the program as to develop a greater comfort level and confidence with it as a skill.  A computer lab or laptop cart dedicated to testing would provide the needed interface for the students and would allow for the ability to test in the core PTA coursework not only the final or practice examinations.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The PTA Program students will continue to struggle with their ability to successfully complete their national licensure examination which will prevent their ability to become licensed thus preventing them from entering the workforce within their profession. In addition, the use of the computer lab has made it difficult to schedule times for program exams including licensure practice exams, lecture exams, quizzes, and final exams.

Department GoalsPursue and obtain a laptop cart with 24 laptops to address online exams in the PTA Lab, BT 103.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
The lack of additional spaces dedicated to student testing is a major stumbling block when trying to schedule examinations in the one computer lab in BT which supports 24 students when that space is being shared by 6 programs.

The need to interface with the computer for testing is directly correlated to students utilizing computers when in clinical experiences and when taking their licensure examinations.
Electronic Medical Records are universal in all areas of clinical experiences and students must be proficient in the use of electronic devices to be successful.
