Initiative Title | Create an Education Department Curriculum Liaison Position |
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | No |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | By definition, Lab Schools are traditionally supervised or run in association with the affiliated college's Education Department. However at SUNY Orange, the Senior Director who oversees both Lab School Directors is supervised by the Executive Director of the College Association and there are few formal connections between the Education Department and Lab School. We would like to establish a formal connection by creating this position, which would require one of our current full-time faculty members to receive an abatement. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | If a formal connection is not established between the Education Department and the Lab School, the Lab School could potentially develop policies, practices, programs and curricula which do not reflect the most current research-based ideas in early childhood education. It is crucial for our early childhood students to have a model of the highest quality care, as we place them in the Lab School for observations and hands-on Field experiences. This position would allow our department to take an active role in programmatic and curricular decisions that occur at the Lab School. |
Department Goals | Continue collaboration with the Lab School to enhance the value and quality of education students’ field experiences. |
