Initiative Title | Create Cloud Computing degree / certificate |
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | 2017 |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | Cloud Computing is a field showing incredible growth. However, since this a relatively new field, there is a decided lack of skilled professionals with training or credentials in this area. Many colleges are not yet in a position to offer a degree or certificate in this field. Fortunately, we have both the requisite knowledge, and a platform prototype (our OpenStack cluster) to deliver such a degree. This is a perfect time to take advantage of this emerging trend.
We have had conversations with PTECH coordinators concerning the possible adoption of PTECH students into this program. PTECH is currently in the process of moving forward in getting approval from their steering committee (IBM, the school district, and SUNY Orange) to include this degree path. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | We need to expand our offerings to match emerging technology trends in industry. If we fail to keep in step with industry expectations, our students will not have the requisite skills to obtain employment. |
