Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Financial Aid TV has become an integral part of the Financial Aid and Student Engagement Offices in promoting Financial Literacy collaboratively to all students on Campus.  Currently FA TV provides students with 102 videos with attached transcripts. This information is presented in both visual and transcript formats for student and family Financial Aid and Financial Literacy needs. An analysis of this virtual library and educational center has shown from the January 2015 to December 2015 time frame, we had 2080 visitor’s viewing 6439 video’s for an average of 3 video views per person. In the Month of August 2015 we had 1049 video’s viewed. In addition we can see that a positive cultural change has occurred where the volume of frequency with viewing from January 2015 compared to January 2016 showed an increase of 281 more videos viewed. (January 2015 had 529 views compared to January 2016 had 810 views)

We feel these videos help in the collaboration and support between Financial Aid, Admissions, Student Engagement Retention, Accounts Receivable, Veterans and the Graduation efforts for the College. These videos also help us meet the needs of Distance Education students who may be unaware of Federal and State Financial Aid policies.  In addition, by increasing our budget for this line item, the Financial Aid Office will be able to acquire FATV for our Spanish speaking population.

Presentation of information becomes imperative while federal and state regulations are changing consistently to meet the needs of the citizenry.  Access and dissemination of information is critical to the educational value required by our student to understand the process and to remove financial barriers in the educational process. It also will help in the retention of Current students, a major initiative of the college.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Outreach and education to new, transfer, continuing and distance education students will be limited, thus increasing the number of students coming to the SUNY Orange Enrollment Area and telephone volume to numbers we may not be able to serve.

Department GoalsContinue utilizing new technologies to enhance customer service and financial aid processing and delivery of funds.
