Hyflex Classroom in Rowley Center

Initiative TitleHyflex Classroom in Rowley Center
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

This initiative is intended as an integral of College-wide plans to develop HyFlex Instructional capability at SUNY Orange.  Such a facility would allow instructional activity in the classroom to be expanded to reach students via virtual means.  Specifically, it would add an important degree of flexibility allowing students to attend in person or online on a daily class  meeting basis.  This, of course, would be most useful during this time of pandemic but would have additional benefits for non-traditional students going forward as well as increasing the potential for lower- enrolled, advanced courses to reach a wider audience.  A faculty member within the Biology Department is interested in " Piloting " such a course ( Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Bio 202 and possibly Genetics ( Bio 201 ) when facilities are developed.  Once developed, other specialized courses such as those associated with our Horticulture Initiative would also have the potential to reach a wider , diverse audience.    It is expected that external grant funding ( as well as institutional funding )  could support a piloting effort.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Limited flexibility re course offerings and inability to reach and serve an extended population of potential students not just in Biology but in a range of other disciplines as well.   This may adversely impact  enrollment as well as viability of specialized course offerings.
