Information Literacy Outreach

Initiative TitleInformation Literacy Outreach
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Information literacy, the ability to identify, locate, and use information effectively, is an integral part of the successful academic experience for both students and faculty.  In order to improve our effectiveness in promoting the instruction of library literacy skills we need to build better relationships with faculty and students by promoting our general services more and by making the college community more aware of what services the library can offer to meet their specific needs. We need to increase our faculty collaborations by improving our communications with faculty, by promoting more “embedded librarian” programs, and by offering more open classes to students, staff and faculty. (This would be made easier with a dedicated classroom which would be available to the library at all times.)

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Minimal funding for printing of promotional materials can easily be absorbed by the libraries supplies budgets.

Department GoalsProvide an effective program of Library Instruction where students will learn the methods and processes necessary to effectively carry out research for scholarly purposes and the pursuit of life-long learning.
