Initiative Title | Interdisciplinary Projects |
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | No |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | Monies should be set aside to assist in funding interdiscipliary projects. This type of endeavor takes students beyond their immediate field of study and broadens their thought processes. It gives the student an opportunity to work in teams with other disciplines as they might have to do out in the "real world". It adds another dimension to problem solving they might not otherwise encounter in their normal field of study.
These projects should occur on an annual basis. Where projects between disciplines are shown to be very successful, scheduling of lab time shoulld be considered to be done concurrently with eaach other so that students ahve common time to work out these projects during the regular course of their lab work.
If each department that particpates in these joint ventures were alootted $5,000, departments pooling this resource would have an edge on getting a start on the necessary equipment. Of course, not all projects need be costly.
The object would be to get students working in teams across various disciplines toward a mutually common goal. |
