More Lectures Via More Funds

Initiative TitleMore Lectures Via More Funds
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Information: It is important to have quality lectures that are not only informational but educational and which broaden the scope of the classroom and ordinary life. Lectures presented by Cultural Affairs are diverse in topic, discipline, and type and offer to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community-at-large presentations on subjects of interest, timely issues, within various academic disciplines, and give opportunities to listen to great speakers, interact with them, and partake of Q & A with experts in their fields, in formal lecture settings or casual situations in and around the campuses.

Note: Endowed lecture series have been requested before, and some of the wording in previous PIPs is in this year’s PIP; but some new concepts blend with former ideas. No place on this form can be found a “Yes, but with variances/edits.”

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Unfortunately, no additional lectures will be able to be scheduled other than those which Cultural Affairs already does per year. Those are excellent. Having an funded lecture series will allow for bringing highly recognized speakers of expertise. Having students, especially, plus faculty, staff, and the general community able to connect with leaders in their fields is a privilege and can be a life-changing experience. Direct interchange with experts and speakers of renown set an educational institution apart from others.

Department Goalspairing experts in the various fields being focused on per event thereby giving opportunities to students and the communities to learn from these presenters of expertise by interactions and attendees directly participating
