The Academic Technology area does not have any administrative assistance.  Filing, creation of reports, training material preparation, copies, correspondence, etc., must be done as time permits.  Administrative assistance would help to increase efficiency and help provide better service to the students, faculty and staff. 

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The academic technology area, which encompasses the online learning support area for the college, has no administrative assistant.  The addition of a support person would help to increase the level of support provided to the college and allow the development/exploration of concierge services for online course-related questions.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
The growth of the academic technology area will help to provide additional support for students who contact this office with questions regarding Blackboard, Registration, online courses, etc. A friendly voice who can answer questions or point someone in the right direction can be the catalyst to a student deciding to take classes here at Orange instead of at another institution.
The Academic Technology area has no administrative support and would benefit from additional help for general tasks. The online learning offerings have grown over the years but the support in this area has never been increased. The addition of an administrative assistant / technical assistant would significantly improve the efficiency of the Academic Technology area and as a result improve the level of service we offer to students and faculty.
The use of Blackboard for online and as a course supplement has increased and continues to do so. The use of Academic Technology in the classroom has also increased, however, staffing in the Academic Technology area has remained at the current level for years. Additional staff is needed.
The addition of an administrative assistant would allow for more frequent updates to students on Blackboard workshops, the use of academic technology provided by the college (Gmail, Office 365, Ally, etc.,) web page updates and / or Grapevine announcements. Students, faculty and staff would be more informed.
The administrative assistant would help in the creation and posting of workshop materials, assist with workshop delivery, update web pages with student guides and information, provide student assistance/guidance by phone or email, direct students to the appropriate office if their question is not Blackboard-related, and represent the College in a friendly, positive way when students call to inquire about online learning in general.
