Reinstate and update our Web program and start offering this degree sequence again.

Initiative TitleReinstate and update our Web program and start offering this degree sequence again.
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Current technological trends (Internet, IoT, Mobile Apps, Service Oriented Architecture) are increasingly dependent upon Web-based services.  As such, any technology program requires suitable training in Internet architecture and Web protocols.  The previous incarnation of our Web program was marred by older standards, poor platform choices, and a weak implementation.  We plan to overhaul this program and present it using current and emerging industry standards that will prepare students for employment in this vibrant field.

We have had conversations with PTECH coordinators concerning the possible adoption of PTECH students into this program.  PTECH is currently in the process of moving forward in getting approval from their steering committee (IBM, the school district, and SUNY Orange) to include this degree path.  This would provide a continuous, guaranteed set of students we can enroll each year in this program.

We have already done a significant amount of work on this program and have already created a new program sequence with several new courses (including syllabi, topic lists, textbook choices, etc.).
