Student Learning Handouts

Initiative TitleStudent Learning Handouts
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The Learning Center is a hub of student activity, in and out of tutoring sessions.  It's typical for Learning Centers of varying size and capacity to provide handouts related to learning.  They can address techniques and strategies for improving learning, and other academic, subject-related information (ranging from algebra formulas, citation guidelines, outline templates, etc.).  These can be physically available in the space itself on flyer racks for students to take, tutors to use in-session, as well as online as PDFs for both students and staff.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Building out student resources will offer support to tutors in-session when addressing common student concerns, as well as provide an additional resource for students who come in with recurring questions and concerns related to time management, research-driven writing, plagiarism, study skills, stress management, etc.

Department GoalsEngage a holistic approach to student learning and success; expand support services to address the gap of college readiness for First Year students., Partner and collaborate with departments across the college to create cohesion across support services, maximize the use of internal resources, and eliminate redundancies in services.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
Academic support is only successful when information is presented and reiterated in multiple formats—in the form of handouts, tutoring sessions, and in-class discussion. Building out student handouts is a simple and yet proven method of expanding the varieties of presented information.
