Thermometer replacement

Initiative TitleThermometer replacement
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Price new thermometers for Patient Care skills testing like students see in the field. Current ones are outdated and need replacement. This skill is important not only for testing, but many graduates work in offices performing the role of X-ray tech and Medical Assistant. They should have experience with current equipment to make them more knowledgeable and marketable.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Current equipment could break and we will have nothing to test students with or need to purchase as emergency and drain funds. Students will not have the skill set with modern equipment and need help using it or training out at clinical or when hired after they graduate.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
I would like to request replacing our current thermometers that we use to teach vital signs with the Welch Allyn SureTemp Plus Model 690 Electronic Thermometer. This model is more in-line with what the student’s would be using out in the field and would allow the students to be more knowledgeable with the clinical setting equipment once they begin their clinical rotations. Having our students well trained and prepared would be beneficial not only to our students, but also to the clinical sites and their patients. It makes them more employable and ready to work when hired.

These monitors would be used for patient care vital signs assessment testing and would help students with the skill set and accuracy of testing.
