The new test available to those needing to earn a High School Equivalency (HSE) program is called TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion). TASC was implemented in 2014 and is based on the common core curriculum and the NY State Standards. This test has been written on an 11th/12th grade level which differs markedly from the previous 9th grade leveled GED test based on High Interest/Low Vocabulary reading passages. In order for teachers to teach to the new test we had to adopt a new curriculum based on the McGraw Hill materials as our guide to TASC. As a result we have run a number of teacher workshops, discussed what other programs have done and researched available materials so our classes will enable students to be prepared for TASC.
