To continue to improve the quality of academic advising services and promote student learning and student engagement in the educational process, the following goals have been set for the upcoming year:

Programming and Service

  • Continue working in the development of an Academic Advising Assessment Plan.  This will allow us to map student learning outcomes that result from the process/delivery of academic advising and academic advising activities to identify further data collection points and outcome measure. The implementation of a formal assessment plan will help improve the quality of academic advising services and improve student learning.
  • Develop an assessment plan for the Peer Advising program. Peer Advisors are students providing support to peer students especially during the registration advising period. They assist peer students with online resources, help students prepare for their academic advising sessions and provide referral resources to students and parents. The program also provides the Peer Advisors opportunities to develop leadership, interpersonal and presentation skills. Assessment of the program will help improve the Peer Advising program and individual peer performance.

Student Success and Access

  • Expand the New START to facilitate an introduction to the College that meets the needs of transfer students. Transfer student feedback indicates that the information that we provide to the conventional first time college students does not adequately meet their needs.
  • Implement a student Veterans mentor-mentee program that provides support to new student Veterans. A group of continuing  student Veterans on both campuses with a 2.8 or higher GPAs have volunteered to participate in the program. The goal of this initiative is to help new student Veterans connect to campus resources, learn academic success skills and time management, get involved in campus life and gain information about basic VA educational benefits.

Technology

  • Continue to utilize technology to streamline academic advising services, and target specific groups of students such as first year students to build on the information that is provided during New START.
