During the 2014-2015 recruitment year, the Office of Admissions has been able to outreach to markets that help communicate the benefits of a two year college experience here at SUNY Orange. This past fall we hosted a STEM Open House specifically geared towards those students interested in studying STEM. We also invited local guidance counselors to our first annual guidance counselor luncheon. Both programs saw great attendance and got positive feedback. We will continue to host both these programs every fall and will highlight a different program as a theme every year. In fall 2015, we will host a New Media Open House as well as our second annual guidance counselor luncheon. The theme will be geared towards promoting our New Media Program.
Over the course of the year, we have continued to actively recruit non-traditional students by attending community based events and holding one on one appointment’s to discuss career and academic opportunities. In addition, the Office of Admissions and the honors program have worked collaboratively together to create a phone call campaign introducing the benefits of the Honors Program.
Admissions was also able to create a Health Profession GPA review process that takes into account the student’s academic process in the Health Profession program of their choice. This has added more transparency for students and advisors and has given the departments the opportunities to accept the best and most qualified students into their programs. Our large scaled Admission events such as our Fall Open House and Incoming Students Day programs have been tweaked to promote more of an emphasis on accessibility, student engagement and financial literacy. The Admissions Office 2015-2016 goals and priorities have been informed by the College’s Strategic Plan, the Academic Master Plan, and the Student Services Master Plan.
