The Bursar’s Office is responsible for collecting tuition and fees and ensuring that students are assessed charges correctly. The Bursar area is also responsible for the billing and collection of tuition for Lab School participants consisting of not only students, but also faculty and community.
The Middletown Campus transitioned to the One Stop Model mirroring our Newburgh Campus and it is important that we continue to listen and respond to the feedback from our college community to provide the best possible service. Further integrating the Bursar staff with Student Services Central is crucial. The Middletown Campus population is much larger than that of our sister campus, making it necessary to deviate from the original model. Students, parents, and potential students at the Middletown Campus have voiced their concerns about long waits to simply make a payment as well as having their residency information continuously returned for being incomplete.
We are proud to be a military friendly school and continue to find ways to serve our growing military population. While new and evolving laws offer veterans and their families great opportunities, these same laws present community colleges with unanticipated challenges. We will continue to update practices through guidance from Albany, update our forms to gather information needed to better assist our veterans in charging correct tuition and fees, and update our literature to keep veterans informed to ensure they receive the benefits they have been afforded.
In an effort to relay important information to students as quickly as possible, we will be moving to electronic notifications beginning with the Fall 2015 semester. We will begin by sending an e-mail notification to any student who registers but does not have a valid certificate of residence on file. We will also be sending loan cancellation letters via e-mail to students as loan funds are received by the College. The benefits include: students receiving notifications much sooner than the traditional letter that is mailed via the post office, reducing cost by eliminating paper and postage, and eliminating the time for staff to generate, print and stuff envelopes.
