The planning for the Dental Hygiene program for the upcoming academic year is based on continuing to provide the students and faculty with the equipment and space to maintain the quality education and clinical learning experience necessary to prepare the students for the licensing exams and to begin professional practice. Also, to program plan to anticipate the changes in the profession including Collaborative Dental Hygiene Practice and accreditation standards.

Department Goals

Specific things the department wishes to achieve or accomplish this academic year.

# Department Goal
1 To hire a faculty member to replace the FT Tenure track position that has been vacant since AY2013-14.
2 To acquire more space designated for the department to accommodate a full class for teaching and learning,storage of teaching materials and equipment.
3 To acquire a Computerized Clinical Evaluation System by either purchasing a software system or developing one in house customized for tracking patient experiences and student performance.
4 Replace and update ultrasonic scaler units when it is no longer cost effective to repair them.
5 To refurbish the Darkroom to remove outdated equipment and redesign to be more ergonomic and create more storage.
6 To refurbish the locker room to replace the 40 year old lockers and remove the unused sink to create more room and possible storage.
7 To build the alumni group and present the Milton Jaffe,DDS Memorial Lecture to assist in fundraising and mentoring efforts.
8 To research and develop a series training modules/certificates for dental assisting education to be offered through the program.
