2020 - 2021 Dental Hygiene Plan

A general statement (narrative) about what the department wants to accomplish.

Planning for the Dental Hygiene program for the next academic year is based on continuing to provide the students and faculty with the best possible environment for the teaching learning / process as the students progress through the learning continuum from novice to competent. The planning process will also address the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA) standards for Dental Hygiene programs, state regulations, current trends of the workforce and the institutional plans and goals.

Department Goals

Specific things the department wishes to achieve or accomplish this academic year.

#	Department Goal
1	To purchase another portable nitrous oxide/oxygen unit to supplement the 14 year old units that we have and to accommodate larger class size.
2	To replace clinical equipment that would be considered a capital item and could not be purchased from the instructional line- specifically operator stools and sterilization equipment. Lockers for the locker room would also fit this goal
3	To purchase Xray model and stand and pediatric model for student practice with the digital panoramic xray machine
4	To regain the FT Tenure track faculty position that was eliminated due to retirement AY 2013-14
5	To regain the 2.5 day part time CSEA clerk position for the Dental Hygiene Clinic Reception.
6	To maintain Dextrr Radiology models as needed and send to summer camp for refurbishing if necessary
7	Seating for 20 students so the lab can be used for instruction now that we have the technology to use it as a smart classroom. The seating must be able to be stacked or stored when not in use since the small space is also used for the Bio Materials lab.
8	To obtain an computerized clinical grading and requirement logging system that will generate data efficiently
9	Purchase clicker for classroom use to survey student knowledge and opinion
10	To refurbish the locker room
11	To investigate sponsoring and implementing a Certificate program for the Community Dental Health Coordinator through the American Dental Association
