An awareness of the budgetary issues the College is and will face has influenced English Department goals for the upcoming academic year.  What we have done is essentially extend our goals from last year to continue or  begin to implement them as cost-effectively as possible.  Thus, our goals touch upon continuing collaborations with CAPE, an investigation of possibilities for the Technical Writing Consultancy, presenting a new Integrated Reading/Writing course to curriculum, and training opportunities in technology and pedagogy relevant to our discipline.

What we have prioritized as a goal that requires funding  is the addition of at least one "smart classroom" dedicated for Department use. This would enable us to become familiar and utilize new technology which would result in innovation.  We have also been able to gain a budget line to enable us to seek matching funds for poetry events; this would allow us to feature a known poet during National Poetry Month which would result in more student and community involvement.
