Initiative Title | Accuplacer Next Generation Transition |
---|---|
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | No |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | Accuplacer will be retiring the Classic version of the Accuplacer test in January 2019. To avoid having this transition happen in the midst of the testing cycle for Spring 2019 students, we need to fully convert to using the Next Generation Accuplacer test by September 1, 2018. The English and Mathematics Departments are already working on reviewing the new tests to determine the appropriate cut scores and placement levels. The writing placement test and Ability to Benefit (ATB) tests will not impacted at this time by this change. Both sections of the Next Generation test are longer than in the Classic version and may require students to complete the test over more than one test session. This will lead to the need for additional test sessions and therefore, more salary paid to the test proctors. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | We will no longer be able to accurately assess incoming students' placements into reading and mathematics courses. |

The College Board has upgraded the Accuplacer platform and revamped the test components. We anticipate that this change will extend the normal test time for students (or require more than one test session per student). To accommodate this change we are seeking funding for additional computer stations and proctor hours.
The Placement Test is an essential component of the admissions process and therefore prioritization of this initiative is critical. GB
