Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | 2018 (Implemented 2020) ACOTE Accreditation Standard A.2.2 The program must have at least two full-time equivalent (FTE) faculty positions at each accredited location where the program is offered. At a minimum, each program must have core faculty who is an occupational therapist and a core faculty who is an occupational therapy assistant. We do not have any full time faculty at this time, we need to have a full time faculty on board to assure compliance and add value and continuity to the program for our students. Historically, there has always been a FT Chair and a FT faculty for the OTA program. We are beginning to prepare for our self-study in summer of 2021, and full ACOTE accreditation onsite will be 2023/2024. Having a full time faculty will be helpful with preparing for a successful self-study and onsite accreditation of the OTA program. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | The consequences of not hiring a full time faculty for the OTA program is something that I think about all the time. I am concerned as we approach our self study with ACOTE this will come up as a possible deficiency. We have only a full time Chair, and no other full time faculty. Since I have been Chair of the OTA program I did a full assessment of the pedagogical approach for our curriculum, and the time is now to make a change to assure we have the consistency and continuity of strong faculty moving forward. The ever-changing healthcare environment presents with challenges and as a healthcare service program the faculty have to shift and stay on top of these changes, then implement into the courses. The OTA program has gone through some staffing changes over the past 2 years, changes in Chair, who was an adjunct for 14 years. Another faculty who was teaching 1 course resigned in the spring of 2019 leaving a vacancy, which I filled quickly with a person who has a strong clinical and educational background. He is currently looking for a full time teaching opportunity and applying at other colleges. Finding adjuncts has been a challenge, and we really need to review this now. |
