Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThe implementation of Banner enables the Admissions Office to become more proactive and “tech savvy” in recruiting and admitting students to the college and managing their progress from the point of inquiry to enrollment. For example, with Banner it is possible to develop and execute communication plans (electronic and mail) tailored to an individual prospect or applicant, and to track and measure the results. In admissions offices today it is common to find a counselor with specific responsibilities related to the management of web and electronic recruitment, admissions, and yield initiatives for the full staff. Reporting to the Director of Admissions and Recruitment and in collaboration with IT staff, this counselor would use available tech resources to expand and enhance recruitment and yield initiatives and to create a more robust web presence for admissions related activities: e.g. online information sessions, live counselor chats, e-newsletters. Further options for creating online sign-up for campus tours, weekly small group admissions sessions, program information sessions, and class visitations provide access to SUNY Orange admissions even when the office is closed. The goal of this position is to reach more students, more frequently, more cost-efficiently, with more relevant information --- first, about the college, and then about their application ---not only during “regular business hours” but, 24/7 via the web. Another positive result of this position is the ability to monitor the results of our initiatives, providing the necessary data for the Director of Admissions and Recruitment and AVP for Enrollment Management as we mange staff time and resources, move through the annual recruitment and admissions cycle, and measure our progress over time.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedProspective students expect us to have the ability to fully communicate to them via technology. With Banner and the portal, we are now ready to proceed in meeting this expectation. The proposal last year was to add two staff members to extend office hours. This revised proposal will add only one staff member, yet will keep the college in constant contact with students with the delivery method that will truly communicate with them at their level. We now have the technology to take the recruitment of students to the next level. It's essential that we add this position so we have the personnel to make it happen.
