Because the of switch to remote learning in Spring 2020, our assessment of the new co-requisite ENG 101/098 was postponed. As a result, we will be assessing the program in its second year of full scale-up rather than its first. Though the assessment will take place this AY, our analysis and response to the data will take place in AY 2021-2022.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
Enrolling students in the ENG 101/098 co-requisite will enable students to reduce their time at SUNY Orange by at least one semester - minimum. For some students, the time reduction could be even greater.
Reducing (or removing) the amount of time students spend in development courses will have a positive effect on student self-esteem and student perception of the College.

Based on data from other institutions, we expect that a larger percentage of students will move on to the next course in the sequence (ENG 102) rather than being stuck in development English and not progressing. 1

Rubrics/ Scoring Guides Rubrics/scoring guides outline identified criteria for successfully completing an activity, assignment, etc. and establish levels for meeting the criteria. They can be used to score everything from essays, engagement, to performances. We already have a rubric for ENG 101 assessment, and that will be utilized. Institutional data can also be used to assess how many students move forward.
