Assistive Technology in the Library

Initiative TitleAssistive Technology in the Library
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThe Library has done little to enable students with disabilities to take advantage of library resources, including printed texts and electronic information. This initiative seeks to create one multi-use assistive work station at each campus library that will contain software and hardware designed to assist students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, attention deficit disorders, low vision, and hearing loss.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedA greater number of library research materials are available in electronic formats, and this has made it possible for libraries to develop technological solutions that provide equal access for people with disabilities. By not providing access, we are doing our students a disservice and may not be in compliance with ADA provisions.
