Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThe SUNY Orange OTA Program will develop an accredited certificate program offering advanced certification as an Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP). The ATP Program will be available to service providers (e.g. OT and PT Practitioners with AAS or higher degrees) who are involved in analysis of a consumer’s needs and training in the use of a particular device.* *An assistive technology device is any item piece of equipment or product system that is used to increase or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. Include job accommodations, computer access, vehicle modification, public transportation, augmentative/alternative communications, environmental controls, positioning devices, seating and mobility, sensory aids and learning accommodations.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedNot addressing an evolving and essential training program that is highly sought after by many OT and PT practitioners.
