Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThe SUNY Orange OTA Program will develop innovative learning experiences designed to expand community-based learning opportunities for students and to foster reciprocal relationships between academic and community partners to promote delivery of occupational therapy services through the formation of Community Connections: Partners for Learning and Service. ***This is a potential revenue producing project, through fees for service, grants and rental income of OTA lab space to OT practitioners*** Examples of available porgrams include: 1. The Health Professions Problem-Solvers Network: A brainstorming network for use by community members seeking rehabilitation related information. Such as consulting for home modifications and adaptations for individuals with physical challenges. 2. OT “Learning/Living Laboratory Resources, information and innovative occupational therapy services available to community members utilizing the SUNY Orange OTA lab facilities. 3. The Sensory Motor and Recreational Transition Program (S.M.A.R.T.) A collaborative program with Early Childhood Education A summer day camp program for children who receive OT services through their school districts during the academic year but do not receive services during the summer. A moderatetuition would be charged to families. 4. Parent/Child Play groups A collaborative program with the SUNY Orange Early Childhood Education Program Weekly play groups offering a family centered fun way for children who may be experiencing a developmental delay and their parents to join other parents and children in exploring ways to create and enjoy play activities.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedA missed opportunity to provide innovative community services and to make the community aware of what SUNY Orange can offer through its programs. This initiative is a potential revenue producing ongoing project.
