Computer lab for testing

Initiative TitleComputer lab for testing
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2016
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The PTA Program is in need of addressing the student's ability to take and pass examinations on a computer interface as that is the means to which they must pass their national licensure examination.  Not only do the student's need to perform this but it is necessary for them to practice this skill within the confines of the program as to develop a greater comfort level and confidence with it as a skill.  A computer lab dedicated to testing would provide the needed interface for the students and would allow for the ability to test in the core PTA coursework not only the final or practice examinations.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The PTA Program students will continue to struggle with their ability to successfully complete their national licensure examination which will prevent their ability to become licensed thus preventing them from entering the workforce within their profession.

Department GoalsPursue assessment activities at the Program and Student Levels as they relate to Accreditation., Continue to promote the development and use of Blackboard course shells for all PTA Program courses and final examinations where applicable., Obtain funding and purchase additional equipment to maintain both Accreditations Standards and local industry standards through the college/program budgets and the pursuit of CTEA Grant funding.

By providing additional time with computer interfacing students will demonstrate greater competency with electronic medical records which is a requirement of professional standards.
By improving the ability of the student to pass their licensure examination it will further ready them for employment within their profession.
Each and every examination within the core courses of the PTA Program requires building levels of critical thinking as well as the use of the computer interface facilitating technology literacy.
Testing will occur on the computer which will allow for additional means to assess student outcomes, provide assessment formats which are used as industry standard and will enable to program to improve teaching and learning through reports generated along this avenue.
Computerized testing and availability of same will enhance completion and employment readiness as it will provide a means for students to become greater familiarized with the computer interface and will provide practice and thus enhance confidence in the students in preparation for their licensure examination which is delivered via a computer interface.
