Initiative Title | Creation of developmentally appropriate Education Hands-on Learning Lab on NewburghCampus. |
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | No |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | Just as other professional programs have clinics (Dental Hygiene, OT, PT, MT, Nursing, Med Lab), the Education students would benefit from a developmentally appropriate hands-on learning lab. The lab would be set up with early education environmentan. Students would be able to put to practice their conceptual and theoretical knowledge through physical presentations in an appropriate environment. Children from Kindercollege, or area schools with whom we have partnerships, could visit during college course time to "test" the projects, products, and methodologies conducted by students. Instructors could teach at certain times in the lab when appropriate; the Smart Board would be located here as well. Such ancillary courses as Foundations of Elementary School Mathematics could schedule use of the classroom clinics to reinforce and give opportunity for student presentations.
Ideally, this lab classroom would be part of an Education suite, designed to include offices, smart classrooms, student lounge, and Education Resource Room, all contributing to an essential sense of identity for Education students, while also serving practical purposes.
Such a lab was created on the Middletown campus. Creating a lab in Newburgh would enable us to keep our programs on each campus equitable. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | Loss of opportunity for practical application of cognitive material for students.
Students in Newburgh will not have the same level of educational instruction, as those in the same classes in Middletown.
Continued "scattered" locations for various operations of Education Department.
Education programs lose cutting edge advantage for marketing, recruitment, retention, academic, support systems, excellence. |
