Dedicated Testing Center in Newburgh

Initiative TitleDedicated Testing Center in Newburgh
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

On the Middletown campus, we have a computer lab that is dedicated solely for the purposes of testing.  It is not used for instruction and is "offline" from any computer updates or changes that are pushed out to all campus computers.  In Newburgh, we use Kaplan 231 for testing, which is also used for many other purposes on campus.  We have had many issues this past year with updates interfering with browser and/or computer requirements of the particular tests that we administer.  We have had to cancel tests on occasion because we were unable to properly administer tests. The IT Department has been helpful in restoring settings to these computers so that we can again administer tests, but often another update will then reset those settings and we are back to square one.  Recently, we have been unable to print students' test results because of a change that was pushed out campus-wide with the introduction of the Paper Clip software program for printing. IT was able to create a generic login for us to use so that we can now print, but that took several weeks of back and forth with the IT Department to troubleshoot.  It would be much easier all-around if we had a room in Kaplan Hall that was dedicated for testing and was "offline."

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The testing process in Newburgh has not been nearly as smooth as it is in Middletown.  Having different setups at each location leads to differences in the way tests are administered at each campus and disparities in the student experience.

Department GoalsTest candidates (students) will have ease of access to tests offered in the Test Center., The test center environment will be conducive to maintaining the integrity of the test administered and to providing optimal physical test taking conditions for test candidates., The Test Center will provide efficient and accurate reporting of test results within the specified time frame for each test.
