Initiative Title | Department workshop on assessment tools |
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | No |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | The area of assessment is data-driven and, as such, is not one with which many department faculty are comfortable or familiar. Such a workshop facilitated by a local expert in the field could help us explore the advantages and disadvantages of current means of assessment and look to revision of these means. The workshop would be open to both full-time and adjunct faculty. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | While we can conduct our own research in this area, such an undertaking would be time-consuming, slow in completion and not be as equally available to full-time and adjunct faculty. |
Department Goals | Improve current and create new tools of assessment for Freshman English 1 to consider the possibilities of exit testing, portfolio grading, and assignment design to more concretely measure student mastery of current Student Learning Objectives. |
