Initiative Title | Develop a robust review class for the NBCOT National examination for all OTA students |
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | No |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | The OTA program is accredited by ACOTE, and each student is required to take a demanding national examination through NBCOT. There are many resources and study tools that students can purchase on their own through multiple organizations, however it is costly and difficult for many students. Over the past few years the SUNY Orange OTA NBCOT test scores have been trending down, and it is imperative that we are proactive and provide additional support to the students so they can be successful.
The OTA faculty is starting to put together a review course which would entail purchasing material for the class, such books, practice exams, and other study material. Each semester the OTA program faculty have a curriculum review discussion to make sure everything being taught is going to help the students be successful on exam, and be great OT practitioners. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | In the past we had some grant funds to use for this initiative, which we will not be receiving this year. As an accredited program there is a standard that addresses the scores, and if we fall below the standard we would out of compliance. It is our responsibility to be proactive and provide the students with additional tools to be successful. The OTA faculty are committed to put together this review class to help the students. |
Department Goals | To develop a robust review course for all OTA students preparing for the NBCOT national examination. , To have a pass rate on the NBCOT examination of 90% or above to maintain standards. |
