Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale	Information Literacy is similar to critical thinking in that the acquisition of skills is dependent upon students exposure to skill development throughout their entire academic career. The recent general education assessment of information literacy skills results indicated that students needed to improve their skills relating to the research process and acquisition of research materials. Traditionally the library has assessed student ability with pre and post testing directly within the library instruction classroom. This initiative will allow the Library to purchase an electronic polling system where librarians can test and poll the students within the classroom. The Librarians can assess student understanding of a concept directly and then either move on to other topics or re-emphasize the skill just covered. Statistical data can be captured for analysis. Purchase of electronic survey creation software will enable us to gather data via our website.
Consequences of this initiative not being funded	The Library will lose the opportunity to actively engage students in the survey/assessment process, loss of useful , assessment will remain at the satisfaction survey level.

COLLEGE I: To provide courses in the arts, sciences, health professions, humanities, business and technology at the level of Associate degree programs, certificates, training and developmental programs to meet student needs for further education, employment and personal growth. 1: To employ key indicators to measure the college’s success in achieving its goals and to utilize established indicators to better measure the effectiveness of its programs.
MIDDLESTATES Standard11: Educational Offerings c: The development of a comprehensive assessment process will expand the annual “assessment reports” that the LRC Director submits to the VPAA into an outcomes-based assessment of the LRC service program.
AMP II: Curriculum Change/Program Design b: Ensure an inclusion of the cultural arts, diversity, critical thinking, communication skills, information literacy etc. within the curriculum and programming for the community
