Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | Information Literacy is similar to critical thinking in that the acquisition of skills is dependent upon students exposure to skill development throughout their entire academic career. The recent general education assessment of information literacy skills results indicated that students needed to improve their skills relating to the research process and acquisition of research materials. Traditionally the library has assessed student ability with pre and post testing directly within the library instruction classroom. This initiative will allow the Library to purchase an electronic polling system where librarians can test and poll the students within the classroom. The Librarians can assess student understanding of a concept directly and then either move on to other topics or re-emphasize the skill just covered. Statistical data can be captured for analysis. Purchase of electronic survey creation software will enable us to gather data via our website. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | The Library will lose the opportunity to actively engage students in the survey/assessment process, loss of useful , assessment will remain at the satisfaction survey level. |
