Expand Peer Advisor Program

Initiative TitleExpand Peer Advisor Program
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The Peer Advisor program was funded for the past five years through the Title III grant.  Peer advisors are trained to assist new students through supporting the New START sessions as presenters.  In addition, the Peer Advisors provide direct support to their fellow students by responding to general questions, introducing students to Banner and the portal, and assisting students in accessing academic and administrative services.

The Peer Advisor program provides a leadership opportunity for participants and a much needed extension of the services that  Academic Advising can provide to students on both campuses.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Currently, there is only departmental budget funding to support two peer advisors.  As such, there is no coverage at the Newburgh campus and limited opportunities for new students to meet or interact with peers.  The leadership opportunity is diminished as is the needed assistance for the Advising staff.

Department GoalsEnsure Student Services staffing at both campus locations best meets student needs
