Expansion of BATCAVERN I (BT-155) and II (NEC) services to students

Initiative TitleExpansion of BATCAVERN I (BT-155) and II (NEC) services to students
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2006/2007
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleBATCAVERN I (BT 155) served over 3,000 students during AY 05 through 06 providing a computerized environment where students can do online research, review course materials (notes, DVDs, anatomic models), take self-assessment tests for concept review, engage in small study groups or receive tutoring. The facility is managed by 2 site supervisors. BATCAVERN II was established in AY 2004-2006 at NEC and has enhanced student success and retention in Introduction to Biology and Nutrition courses taught at the Center. Increased student demand requires expansion of physical facility BT-155 and extended hours of operation (BATCAVERN I and II.)
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedVital services will be limited by constrained physical space, lack of necessary equipment/instructional supplies and by restrictive operational hours. This will reduce the delivery of essential services to students and negatively effect their academic success, persistence and retention.
