Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleIncrease the position of OTA Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFC) to fulltime from the present . The OTA Department presently has a full-time chair and 3 adjunct faculty members in addition to the 3/5th Fieldwork Coordinator position. The increase in the number of students in the program (54 in program, 40 pre-OTAs) requires considerably more advising time, which at this time is the responsibility of the Chair. Additionally, there is an increased need to obtain fieldwork sites for the 4th semester internship as well as plethora of fieldwork experiences that are incorporated throughout the curriculum. The Level II Fieldwork Experiences in the 4th semester, 62217 & 62218 require 18 hours of faculty loading. That loading is now divided among the Chair, the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and an adjunct faculty member. The division of loading exceeds the contact hours allowed for the part-time fieldwork coordinator, thereby necessitating allocation of additional funding for 15 contact hours (6 for the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, 3 for an adjunct and 6 for the Chair). Increasing this position would absorb at least 9 of those contact hours into loading for a fulltime position. (saving approx. $5000 in overloading) An increase from 3/5ths to a full-time position would enable the OTA Dept. to actively pursue the development and initiation of the Community Connections, S.M.A.R.T. and OT Problem Solvers community outreach programs. (Initiative #2)
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedExtreme stress on the workload of the Chair; difficulty in obtaining field sites for required 4th semester placement; an overall weakening of the quality of the OTA program.
