Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleTo meet the expanding instructional needs of the Biology Departmentcreated by: 1) increased student demand ( student contact hours per semester has increased by more thantwofoldsince 2000 ); 2) ,Increasing course offerings at Newburgh; 3) requests to develop and add new courses by other Departments and Programs at the College ( Diagnostic Imaging, Cross-Sectional Anatomy; Nursing, Pathophysiology; Criminal Justice, Forensic Biology / Biotechnology; New Visions, additional sections of General Biology 1 & 2 ). With over 100 sections of courses offered by the Department during both Fall and Spring Semesters we typically employ more than 20 adjunct instructors per semester. Our capacity to expand our offerings to meet emergent requests and to maintain instructional quality will depend on meeting critical staffing needs.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedWe will not be able to expand our offerings to meet existant requests and/or develop new programming. Maintaining academic quality is also an issue of concern.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
An additional faculty member would allow us flexibility to expand our departmental offerings to meet existant demands. In doing so we would be further supporting other program revisions as delineated above.
This initiative would increase student accessibility to critical courses, and enrich curricula as noted previously
