- STUDENT SERVICES MASTER PLAN 2013
- Efficiency and Effectiveness
- Continuously monitor staffing levels and adjust based on analysis
|
There is only one person on campus supporting the administration of the Blackboard LMS, providing faculty training for online learning, faculty support for Blackboard, and serving academic technology needs. The online program has continued to grow but we have not kept pace with growth in support staff. Additional staff are needed for continuity planning, backups, and to provide adequate support on both campuses for students and faculty. The academic technology area could provide expanded training for students and faculty which is not possible with current staffing levels. |
- STUDENT SERVICES MASTER PLAN 2013
- Student Success & Access
- Develop strategies to ensure and increase access and accessibility
|
Assistance with student workshops will provide training and additional help for those using Blackboard, having questions about it or who are unfamiliar with the technology in general.
In addition, having another person who can answer questions or provide one-on-one assistance will increase the level of service we can provide to students. |
- STUDENT SERVICES MASTER PLAN 2013
- Student Success & Access
- Provide all students new to the college with a comprehensive orientation
|
The goal is to provide start of semester workshops for students at both campuses in how to use Blackboard for their courses. Students receive their new start orientation, but I would like to do a hands-on workshop in using Blackboard as well to help give them the best start possible. |
- STUDENT SERVICES MASTER PLAN 2013
- Student Success & Access
- Facilitate student success, growth and goal completion
|
Providing additional help with Blackboard will also help facilitate student success in their courses, facilitate growth by increasing technology skills, and may facilitate completion by providing students with more confidence to complete their studies. |
- STRATEGIC PLAN 2015-2020
- PRIORITY II: Student Support and Success: We will support our students in achieving their educational and career goals.
- a: Prepare students for college success through academic planning and advising and comprehensive, ongoing support.
|
Additional staff will allow for more comprehensive, ongoing support for students in their academic endeavors. |
- STRATEGIC PLAN 2015-2020
- PRIORITY II: Student Support and Success: We will support our students in achieving their educational and career goals.
- b: Accelerate students’ completion of developmental education and ensure college readiness by refining processes, services, and course sequences.
|
Many faculty are using Blackboard as a supplement to their developmental courses. Students in these classes may need extra help with not only Blackboard but technology in general. Additional staff in the Academic Technology area will allow the opportunity for expanded support for students. |
- STRATEGIC PLAN 2015-2020
- PRIORITY II: Student Support and Success: We will support our students in achieving their educational and career goals.
- c: Increase student retention, completion, transfer, and employment readiness.
|
Academic Technology support for students will help them to achieve their academic goals. This will help toward student retention, completion, transfer and employment readiness. Many businesses use Blackboard for employee training and organizational groups. Other schools use Blackboard, so students who gain a solid understanding of the functionality while at Orange can take those tech skills with them to other schools or employment. |
- STRATEGIC PLAN 2015-2020
- PRIORITY III: Collaboration and Communication: We will develop connections between internal and external constituents and advance mutually beneficial partnerships. We will promote a culture of trust, respect, and collective responsibility.
- d: Strengthen the sense of community to improve the institutional climate and promote collegiality, civility, and mutual respect.
|
Providing additional staffing to support students and faculty in the academic technology and online learning areas will demonstrate that the college IS supportive to its students and faculty, and that budget is being allocated toward improving the support environment. |
- ACADEMIC MASTER PLAN 2016-2020
- The Student Experience
- Objective #3: Enhance academic support and services by effectively utilizing equipment, facilities, personnel, and technology to meet our students’ needs.
|
We can more effectively use Blackboard and other college-provided online systems by helping students to better understand how to use these resources. Providing training in the use of online Library resources, GSuite applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Apps) can also be very beneficial to students. Workshops could be held monthly for these and other academic technology questions which students may have. |
- ACADEMIC MASTER PLAN 2016-2020
- Preparation and Success
- Objective #2: Develop and implement ongoing academic support for continuing students.
|
Additional staff would allow expanding Blackboard training for students as well as faculty. Providing training and support for students in the use of Blackboard can help students develop confidence with technology skills, help them to utilize the resources faculty are posting online, and provide a sense that the college is there to support them in all college-provided technologies. |
- ACADEMIC MASTER PLAN 2016-2020
- Virtualization
- Objective #4: Develop, deliver and support online student services to improve accessibility, communication, retention and completion.
|
Student-focused workshops will be developed and delivered in-person and online to provide additional support for students in the use of Blackboard, the library, and other college-provided services to help them improve academic outcomes. |
