Initiative Title | Full Time Tenure Track Physics Instructor |
Submitted in Previous Year(s) | No |
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | In recent years a number of full time physics and engineering faculty have retired and have not been replaced. With the recent retirement of David Davies and John Cummins the department now finds itself in a precarious position. The engineering courses are currently being covered by adjunct instructors and retired professors. The rigorous nature of the engineering courses makes finding a qualified adjunct a difficult task. It is imperative that the department secure a full time instructor to maintain the high level of excellence that the engineering program is known for |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | At any time our adjuncts could decide not to teach for a semester or two. If this were to happen it is unlikely that a replacement engineering instructor could be found to cover their courses. This would be a minor disaster for the engineering program as it would have a serious impact on the students education. |
