Graphic Artist

Initiative TitleGraphic Artist
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

An entry-level graphic artist, working under the guidance of the Communications Office, would greatly enhance the department's ability to generate publications, flyers, certificates, brochures, web graphics and social media content. At present, there is a significant amount of work flowing through the Communications staff, yet there are more publications requests that need our attention. There remain many people and offices at the College who still are creating their own content for flyers and other publications. many of these folks do not understand design standards and print-house requirements. Some of those folks print their materials in-house, while some others go outside to area printers or big-box stores. These folks do not have relationships with printers, therefore may not get the best price. They also don't understand, and often do not adhere to, the College's branding standards, which leads to an inconsistent look. A graphic artist who is in house and on staff, would greatly enhance our ability to fulfill requests and bring consistency to our diverse array of publications and flyers. Additionally, as the College devotes more dollars to marketing and student recruitment, the Communications staff will be asked to generate more collateral materials (postcards, ads, direct mail pieces, publications, etc.) to support those admissions initiatives.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The College will continue to see the distribution of items that are inconsistent in style and do not adhere to the College's branding standards. It also means we may miss out on other opportunities, such as expanded social media marketing and enhanced web site content. We know we will be asked to create more collateral materials as the College expands the marketing budget to support much-needed student recruitment initiatives. Without the ability to expand our output, we will be required to prioritize those jobs/requests that we can complete. With the emphasis squarely on recruitment, many other "non-recruitment" requests (certificates, certain types of flyers and announcements, web support, and social media support) likely will have to be denied.
