Hire a second 520 position staff member

Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The CTL is taking on increasing responsibility and offering expanded training events college-wide. There is currently one 520 position (ten hours per week) filled through the CTL that assists with the increasing administrative task load. It is simply not enough. A second 520 position would allow for more continuity of workflow, preparation of training materials, answering phones and drop in requests, and faculty and staff needs.

In addition, the CTL will now be occupying a new office space in the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering that contains a reception area next to a faculty and staff work/resource area as well as a 12-participant training room. If the CTL director is not physically in the office it will be impossible for: 1) faculty and staff to access these areas and tools, and 2) session presenters to access the CTL facility in order to host their session.

A second 520 position would offer coverage in the office during critical days and times in order for these tools to be utilized and expand the CTL's value to the college community.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The CTL will not be able to handle the influx of traffic and needs presented with the new location on the ground floor of the RCSE, next to the cafeteria and within just a few steps of the forum. Training opportunities and critical communication vital to the CTL's role and mission will be missed due to a lack of staffing.

Department GoalsDevelop a College-wide adjunct orientation program to be rolled out in the spring 2015 semester, Increase staff participation in CTL events by 10% from the 2013-14 academic year, Coordinate the Academic Affairs Annual Spring Retreat in conjunction with the Office of the Associate Vice Presidents and the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Provide training opportunities on specific technology implemented in the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering, including: Epson interactive projectors, Ladybug document cameras, Sharp Aquos Boards, Classroom computers and Crestron Lecture Capture
