The Center for Teaching & Learning   

Vision

The Center for Teaching & Learning  (CTL) serves as a resource center that explores, promotes, and supports excellence in teaching and learning, pedagogical best practices, innovative technologies, and campus collaborations to enhance the student experience.

Mission

The Center for Teaching & Learning is committed to supporting faculty and staff through professional development opportunities in order to enhance the quality of the teaching and learning process and the student-centered learning environment at SUNY Orange.

The CTL will:

• Provide pedagogical best practices and technology training to enhance course goals and objectives.

• Foster the integration of innovative teaching methods/technologies to meet the diverse learning styles of students.

• Provide professional development resources and training opportunities that enhance the teaching and learning experience.

• Support collegiality of SUNY Orange faculty and staff through collaborative workshops and dialogue.

• Explore new technology options that support student learning and success.

Goals

The goals of the CTL align with the College Strategic Priorities, the Academic Master Plan, Student Services Initiatives, and Instructional Technology Priorities.  In support of this goal, the CTL strives to: 

• Identify, acquire, and integrate emerging instructional technology & training needs in higher education to support the College’s academic programs.

• Maintain currency of training programs and curriculum development to align with the evolving academic needs of the student body.

• Foster an atmosphere of collaboration and partnerships.

• Showcase faculty innovation and creativity.

• Provide adjunct and new faculty mentoring and support.

• Offer training opportunities in a variety of formats to maximize participation.

Current Support/Services

1.  Provide College-wide faculty & staff trainings on a variety of teaching and learning topics

2.  Private faculty/staff/departmental consultations

3.  Coordinate the faculty spotlight series

4.  Coordinate the iPad Faculty Program

5.  Promote relevant webinars to faculty and staff

6.  Serve as a member on the Social Media Task Force and Academic Technology  Committee and ex-officio to the FSDC

7.  Support faculty orientation programs (full-time and adjuncts) through presentations

8.  Explore new technologies that support teaching and learning

9. Assess the support needs for the Academic Master Plan

10. Coordinate opportunities for graduate credit to support faculty professional development

11. Coordinate the Post Assembly Workshops in partnership with the Office of Academic Affairs

 

 

Department Goals

Specific things the department wishes to achieve or accomplish this academic year.

1 Provide a collaborative and collegial gathering space focused on teaching and learning to enhance the mission of the College.
2 Provide a robust and varied professional development schedule of events for faculty, staff and administration.
3 Implement an on-campus technology summit in conjunction with the opening of the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering
4 Partner with the Office of Academic Affairs and Institutional Planning, Assessment and Research to offer a minimum of three sessions per semester highlighting assessment best practices
5 Develop a College-wide adjunct orientation program to be rolled out in the spring 2015 semester
6 Increase staff participation in CTL events by 10% from the 2013-14 academic year
7 Create a CTL Liason Program to communicate and enhance CTL goals, support and initiatives College-wide
8 Collaborate with the Grants Office to identify outside funds for training events
9 Coordinate the Academic Affairs Annual Spring Retreat in conjunction with the Office of the Associate Vice Presidents and the Vice President of Academic Affairs
10 Provide training opportunities on specific technology implemented in the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering, including: Epson interactive projectors, Ladybug document cameras, Sharp Aquos Boards, Classroom computers and Crestron Lecture Capture
11 Partner with the Governance President and Vice President to develop Governance Committee Chair Video Training Modules
