Hire an Assistant Director/Coordinator

Initiative TitleHire an Assistant Director/Coordinator
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2014
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Find, hire and train a faculty member to serve in this role, especially in Newburgh;

Currently, no one representing the Honors Program is in Newburgh, thus there is no visibility or support for students there.  They do not develop the appropriate sense of community or belonging that students in Middletown do as they interact regularly (if they choose) with the Coordinator and administrative assistant. This person could help with recruiting, visibility, marketing, advising and day-to-day overview of classes, facilities, etc.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Students in Newburgh will continue to feel left out and disconnected, consequently dropping out of the program.  Advising and recruiting are done in a less efficient manner.  Honors faculty feel disconnected from main campus administration and events as well.

Department GoalsWork on infrastructure and personnel plan, including a faculty person in Newburgh and perhaps a part-time clerical person there as well, Improve student retention within courses, from semester to semester, and from year to year.
