Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale	The college strategic plan calls for the construction of a new science building on its Middletown Campus including the restoration of the College Greenhouses ( now in progress ) to be the centerpieces of a compelling Botanical Center / Sustainability initiative. One greenhouse will be reconfigured as an academic center / botanical laboratory and will serve as a venue for both academic offerings and a variety of community workshops, lectures, miniconferences. For this facility to function optimally a Facility Manager / Program Coordinator must be hired to oversee the proper maintenance and care of our botanical collection and related gardens and to plan and develop programming of broad community interest in areas related to horticulture, sustainability and environmental education. This individual will also develop and maintain cooperative interactions / articulations with community groups of similar focus.
Consequences of this initiative not being funded	Inability to develop and support courses and programs in collaboration with the Biology Department and the community-at-large. Inability to properly maintain and care for botanical collection and theme gardens, thus, limiting materials available to students in Botany and General Biology courses..

STRATEGIC Priority I: Refine and strengthen the College’s Academic Master Plan. Implementation of the Academic Master Plan will be supported by a Facilities Plan, a Technology Plan, a Resource Development Plan and an Enrollment Management Plan.	This initiative will enhance educational opportunities for students in existing General Biology, Botany and Ecology courses. It will also promote interaction / articulation with a variety of other areas / groups within the community as new and cooperative programming is developed. We invision cooperative ventures with Encore, Kindercollege, Cornell Cooperative Extension as well as other college and community groups....thye possibilities are nearly endlesws!
AMP A: Curriculum Development	Please see narrative associated with previously cited goal. Basically it will enhance existing offerings in Biology and lead to development of interdisciplinary community offerings including workshops, seminars, community programming in areas related to horticulture, gardening, sustainability and the environment.
AMP B: Students	Proper maintenance of the Greenhouse and Gardens would enhance student learning opportunities in various Biology courses, making primary specimens available for study and student research.
