HMS Outreach

Initiative TitleHMS Outreach
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The HMS program continues to be a central element of our department and is increasingly an important connection to our local community and workforce. As such, we have increased our efforts in terms of hosting events on campus. In AY 2023-2024, we have hosted several meetings of the Joint Membership of Health and Community Agencies (JMHCA), which brings together many HMS agency directors from across Orange County. Hosting these meetings has increased the visibility of the college within the local community.

We also hosted a job fair where 16 agencies were represented, which attracted both students and community members.

Hosting these events has small associated costs for decorations, refreshments, SUNY Orange gifts to agencies, promotional materials, signage,  among others. This year, we have exhausted what budget the department has to support the events.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

We would not be able to continue our outreach to the degree we would like.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
Cultivate and expand connections with local HMS employers
Promote educational opportunities at SUNY Orange to people already working in the field and what to pursue professional development.
The HMS field is facing a historic shortage of qualified workers. Our program is a critical means of helping to address that societal challenge.
We continue to work on micro-credentials and connections to CAPE through our CASAC partnership.
