Identify and implement an annual review of CAPE metrics, including benchmarks and potential for additional measurements

Initiative TitleIdentify and implement an annual review of CAPE metrics, including benchmarks and potential for additional measurements
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

CAPE currently does not have the ideal data reporting structure to tell how CAPE is doing financially as well as identify challenges and successes for allocating resources. Identifying and implementing metrics will strengthen accountabilities within CAPE, and expand upon strategies that improve planning processes, decision making, and effective use of resources.

Armed with this data CAPE Director and Coordinators can:

  • Use reports to determine workload, evaluate efficiency, and redistribute tasks as needed to improve streamlining
  • Review LERN’s annual market analysis of CE courses to ensure that budget dollars are allocated to CE’s top 7 market segments
  • Review program data and comparing cost projections and enrollments
  • Review program viability data, program enrollments, completion statistics for non-credit certificate and muli-level course programs
Consequences of this initiative not being funded

While the current available data reporting process just suffices for basic financial information, it does not provide the continuum of data CE units need to better utilize resources and to make informed decisions. Without a new process, CAPE will continue to utilize incomplete data.

Department GoalsExpand upon strategies that improve planning processes, decision making, and effective use of resources (institutional effectiveness / operational excellence), Increase opportunities for staff support and development and professional growth

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
This initiative will help better define CAPE department goals. Armed with this information, CAPE can better identify and implement strategies to achieve those goals as well as assess the success of those goals to improve programs and services and make more informed planning and resource allocation decisions.
This initiative provides evidence of the rationale for non-credit offerings, and a more comprehensive review of the design, delivery, and evaluation of non-credit offerings.
With more appropriate information in hand, CAPE will be able to better evaluate program offerings, delivery formats, and course scheduling.
As a result of this initiative, a more accurate picture of CAPE, including financial and resource allocations data, will improve transparency of CAPE's activities.
Being able to collectively create a data process to better assess CAPE's activities will strengthen institutional effectiveness efforts and operational excellence.
An example of an analysis of this new data process will help indicate where CAPE should be continuing it's efforts as well as where not to continue to invest which will assist staff with better focusing their efforts towards more successful and worthwhile activities.
An example of an analysis of this new data process will help indicate where CAPE should be continuing it's efforts as well as where not to continue to invest which will allow staff to be more informed about their decisions on what educational activities to offer.
