Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale	Information Literacy proficiencies are an essential component for student success along with reading, writing, mathematics, and critical thinking. While the Library has successfully partnered with faculty in an effort to strenghen IL skills through our library instruction program, and recently with the general education infomanagement assessment, more needs to be done. This initiiative seeks to build on the foundation that has been developed in the following ways: outreach to college departments to incoporate IL skills within their courses, involve the academic community in conversations about strategies to strengthen IL skills, increase the numbers of classes coming to the Library for Library Instruction, include information literacy skills pages on the library website to include information literacy standards, assessment information and rubric, incorporate more hands-on instruction within the Lib. Instruction sessions. Partner with Learning Assistance services to develop an information literacy support student/tutor initiative.
Consequences of this initiative not being funded	Students will be underprepared and lack the skill set necessary to locate information effectively, evaluate information critically and use it to effectively within a higher education setting.

COLLEGE II: To offer a broad program of general education so that students learn to communicate and reason effectively; make independent judgments; and develop an appreciation for learning, a respect for diverse cultures and individuals and a desire for self and societal improvement. 1: To increase learning activities beyond the classroom for students including international studies.
MIDDLESTATES Standard11: Educational Offerings d: Extend the collaboration between librarians and faculty to all academic departments to foster information literacy skills across the curriculum.
MIDDLESTATES Standard11: Educational Offerings e: Accelerating the development of rubrics and outcome measures for information literacy to meet the target date of Spring 2005 for the assessment of general education will enable the college to rationally evaluate existing programs and add new programs.
STRATEGIC I: Develop and implement an Academic Master Plan that guides the renewal of current programs and services, the development of new programs and services, and formulizes the allocation of resources effectively.
AMP II: Curriculum Change/Program Design c: Identity, review and assess the common academic core that should exist in all AA, AS and AAS programs
