Interdisciplinary Event

Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Seemingly, no one knows where we are going in this pandemic way of life. Consequently, it is difficult to plan on events that usually work best when people can meet in-person to experience the opportunities. However, adjustments can be made in many cases to make the best of the present situation.

Keeping that in mind, in addition to a pandemic way of life, the Earth is experiencing the climate change about which scientists have been warning for decades. An overall semester of events focused on climate change is a timely and important topic. Lectures from different perspectives: biology-ecology, geology, sustainability, meteorology, engineering, coupled with art, poetry, and music, and an exhibit encompassing these sciences and enhanced by art with sounds and music, both recorded and live during a reception, will truly be interdisciplinary and service many departments as well as the community-at-large. Master classes related to these subjects as well as offering hands-on educational experiences will further educational opportunities. In addition, related films with discussions can be scheduled.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

It should be noted that events will take place on both campuses. Certain yearly events will be brought into this initiative such as Earth Day (April) 2023 and World Water Day (March) 2023. Also, some events lend better to each campus and some do well on both. That will be taken into consideration. And, of course, if we are still dealing with the pandemic and covid variants, then that will be figured out.

No funding has been requested.
