Internship Program ~ Career Resources & Closet

Initiative TitleInternship Program ~ Career Resources & Closet
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

This initiative is an expansion effort in support of the current SUNY Orange Internship Program which is tethered to credit bearing courses in Business, Computer Science, Health & Human Services and Arts & Communication (Practicum).

Current students are supported with resume development, interview preparation and placement opportunities.  This initiative would allow for an expansion of these efforts by developing a "Career Resource Closet" for students who are in need of proper interview/work attire and other supports e.g. grooming, laundry and transportation funds.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The current internship program is relatively limited in scope and resources.  This initiative would dramatically impact the support for students in securing opportunities to develop skill for future employment.  Without funds for this initiative the program will remain limited in focus and scale therefore impacting few student outcomes.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
Through the development of a Career Resource Closet, we can eliminate some of the barriers to gainful employment that come from inequalities in personal resources. As we eliminate these barriers for students the path is clear to pursue academic and personal success.
Internship experience is invaluable as a student experience in developing skills and a network for future career success. By creating a framework of support and opportunity for students to experience professional work environments we are fostering a student experience that is tangible and directly correlates to their success beyond SUNY Orange.
