Maintain our partnership with Catholic Charities

Initiative TitleMaintain our partnership with Catholic Charities
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2023
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Starting in Spring 2023, Catholic Charities has been in contract with SUNY Orange to provide services for our students. They come twice a month for general tabling, have office hours in person for 8 hours a month, and perform twice-monthly on-the-spot Narcan trainings. Their immigration attorney has also provided us with a DACA student training for our staff, and we hope to receive more trainings in the upcoming year.  Catholic charities have trained dozens of staff and students on how to administer Narcan, helped several students apply for low-income housing, assisted several students in applying for SNAP services (food stamps), and provided general support. Students appreciate their kind demeanor and helpful assistance. We would like to continue this partnership.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Students will have a much harder time obtaining assistance for issues such as not having a place to live, not having enough food, lacking transportation, and lacking childcare.
